BOB & MARK’S LE MANS CLASSIC

In 2014 BOB and Mark Hales had THE OPPORTUNITY TO RACE IN THE LE MANS CLASSIC in Nick Mason's 512 BB LM 27577 79.

Bob Houghton himself worked on this car in the early 1980s (whilst at Rosso Racing) and the following few years would cement themselves as a crucial part of the car’s history.

F1 SHELL ADVERT - RIO DE JANIERO

Another string to the “Bob Houghton bow” has been our experience with prototype and Formula 1 cars.
The 1970s cars have always been particular favourites (the 512S and 312PB are amazing cars!).
We have restored many of these through the years as well as preparing and supporting them at various prestige events.

It is such an amazing feeling driving a Formula 1 car. Bob Houghton Ltd have always been involved with them and we are one of the few independents that can actually run these technological masterpieces.
Not so long ago, I was asked to help  find Formula 1 cars to make an advert for Shell, with the concept being a film of early to late F1 cars in different locations around the world.

I ended up driving a F310 B on the dual carriageway next to Copacabana beach in Rio, which was incredible - cold tyres, no barriers and the Director saying “go flat out”! I was too busy looking at the girls on the beach…. but we got the shots in the end.

FERRARI DAYTONA

This original competition Daytona is a brute of a car! Having been prepped by Bob Houghton Ltd it was driven in anger in the Shell Historic and Tour Auto.

FERRARI CHALLENGE

BOB Says "Ferrari then introduced the Ferrari Challenge Series. With all of my racing experience, Ferrari UK asked if I would engineer the UK team of five 355's. The cars came to the UK as road cars without trim and before they could race we had to convert them to race spec. using the kit of parts supplied by the factory".

"There are so many stories I could tell but, without question, 1997 at Magny Cours stands out. Mark Peters blew his engine during qualifying so we were under pressure to change it as fast as possible".

"Martin Henderson magnanimously donated his engine (Martin won group B of the Challenge series this same year) and we fitted it in 2 ½ hours – a record time!"

"I remember shaking the car down in the paddock to the applause of some of the teams due to our incredible achievement. a wonderful reflection of how close all the teams were in those days as we all helped each other. In the race, Mark made his way up to 2nd giving him enough points to eventually win the championship".

1970 FERRARI 512 M

Bob Houghton has a long term relationship with this famous 512. Since the mid 1970's we have run the car on behalf of several owners and have had many successful encounters on the track.

FERRARI REC - 246 DINO F1

In the early 90's we were given the opportunity to recreate a 246 Dino from scratch.

We did encounter a few issues with the electrical system, however we overcame these and the car drove like a dream.

Our specialist machinist had an extremely busy and challenging time making all the uprights and other parts to make the car look as original as possible.
